New Delhi: Transactional video-on-demand service BookMyShow Stream has announced a new lineup for March including thriller-drama A Boy From Heaven, comedy-drama A Man Called Otto, action Adventure Kantara and the historical drama Litvinenko.
The BookMyShow library, which also includes titles such as Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984, The Craft: Legacy and the Russian sci-fi thriller Coma, is available for both rent and purchase become €40 and €600 depending on the movie. A rental is available for 30 days and must be completed within 48 hours of starting, while a title can be purchased for six months or even longer.
BookMyShow’s Transactional Video-on-Demand (TVOD) service, which launched in February 2021 with 600 movie titles, offers a range of Hollywood, Hindi and Indian films in partnership with American studios such as Sony Pictures, Warner Bros and Universal Pictures Independent and overseas cinemas, Indian production houses such as Viacom18, Shemaroo and Rajshri Productions, and regional content providers such as Divo and Sillymonks, among others.
Almost two years since Zee, BookMyShow, Shemaroo and Amazon Prime launched pay-per-view services, the model remains a niche in India. Media industry experts point out that these services offer a limited selection of content, which makes them less attractive. As most consumers have resumed outdoor entertainment activities and many have ongoing annual OTT subscriptions, pay-per-view, also known as transactional video-on-demand (TVoD), has not emerged as the preferred method of viewing content. It’s also unlikely to challenge the subscription or free model in terms of range.
As concerns about the pandemic have eased, consumers have largely reverted to old ways. Nowadays, Indian audiences visit cinemas to see a movie and most consumers already have ongoing subscriptions to all major OTT platforms.
