
Know how to check PAN Aadhaar link status
If you don’t need to link the PAN card to Aadhaar yet, you need to link it before March 31, 2023.
PAN is a ten digit unique alphanumeric number assigned by the Income Tax Department in India. It is issued in the form of a laminated plastic card (commonly known as a PAN card). It serves as a unique identification number for individuals and legal entities in India for tax purposes.
Linking PAN to Aadhaar
The Finance Act 2017 had inserted a new Section 139AA into the Income Tax Act 1961 requiring any person eligible to receive Aadhaar to provide their Aadhaar number when applying for PAN or filing an income return effective 1 July . 2017
If you don’t need to link the PAN card to Aadhaar yet, you need to link it before March 31, 2023. Otherwise, you will no longer be able to use them after April 1, 2023.
Once PAN cardholders miss this deadline, the 10-digit unique alphanumeric number becomes invalid.
How to check if the PAN is linked to the Aadhaar card
Step 1: View PAN Aadhaar link status without logging into www[dot]income tax[dot]reg[dot]in/iec/foportal/
step 2: On the e-Filing portal home page, go to “Quick Links” and click Link Aadhaar status.
step 3: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and click View link Aadhaar status.
If the validation is successful, a message will be displayed regarding your Link Aadhaar status.
When the Aadhaar Pan link is in progress, the following message will appear on the screen;
Your Aadhaar PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation. Please check the status later by clicking the Link Aadhaar Status link on the home page
If the Aadhaar PAN linking is successful, the following message will appear;
Your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar
How to view PAN Aadhaar link status after login
Step 1a: After logging in to the e-Filing portal home page, go to your dashboard and click Link Aadhaar status.
Step 1b: Alternatively, you can go to My Profile > Link Aadhaar Status.
(If your Aadhaar is already linked, the Aadhaar number will be displayed. If Aadhaar is not linked, the Aadhaar status link will be displayed.)
- If validation fails, click Link Aadhaar on the status page and you need to repeat the steps to link your PAN and Aadhaar.
- If your request to link PAN and Aadhaar is pending validation with UIDAI, you will need to check the status later.
You may need to contact the Jurisdictional Assessing Officer to de-link Aadhaar from PAN if:
- Your Aadhaar is linked to another PAN
- Her PAN is linked to some other Aadhaar
Who needs to link Aadhaar and PAN?
Under Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, any person who was assigned a PAN on 1 July 2017 and who is eligible to receive an Aadhaar number must provide their Aadhaar number in the prescribed form and manner.
In other words, such persons must compulsorily link their Aadhaar and PAN before the mandatory date (March 31, 2022 with no fee payment and March 31, 2023 with mandatory fee payment).
Fees for PAN Aadhaar Link
The mandatory fee was Rs 500 up to 30th June 2022 and Rs 1000 will be charged from 1st July 2022 to 31st March 2023 in a single challan applicable before submitting the Aadhaar PAN linking application on the e-filing portal is.
