The Ministry of Roads and Highways has addressed claims of flooding on the recently inaugurated Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway. Explaining the problem, the government said the route was flooded because villagers blocked the Ramanagara section of the outflow. It should be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 118 km expressway on March 12. After that, on March 18, came the reports about the part of the streets that was flooded with water.
In a statement, the Ministry of Roads Transport and Highways said: “Villages of Madapura and others have attempted to cut-off access to their agricultural land and villages at Km 42+640 by blocking the drain with earth for a width of 3m to to make their own way from the side road, resulting in flooding of the road due to a blockage of the drainage path. The path built by the villagers for their access was removed early in the morning of March 18th.

Pictures and videos shared on social media platforms on Saturday showed vehicles moving through the water on the road. According to the reports, opposition parties claimed the expressway was hastily opened by the BJP in preparation for the elections.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway was built at a cost of Rs 8,480 crores and aims to cut the travel time between the two cities by half.
As part of the project, NH 275 would be widened from four to six lanes on the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta-Mysuru section. The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway was built along with 89 underpasses and flyovers, four railway overpasses, nine main bridges, 40 side bridges and a section of NH-275. It should be mentioned that the 118 km road, which has two service lanes on both sides and six main lanes, was built as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana.
A bypass on the green field would also be part of the E-Way. This bypass will have a total length of 22 km between Ramanagaram and Channapatana and 8 km, 10 km and 4 km for Mandya, Srirangapatana and Maddur respectively. In addition, a 7km bypass will be built in Bidadi, allowing commuters to avoid the nearby towns.
