Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is quickly catching the attention of modern car buyers. This technology, once limited to high-end luxury vehicles like Volvo, Tesla and Mercedes-Benz, has found its way into affordable vehicles in India. Almost all mid-size premium SUVs now offer buyers an ADAS option. While the basic function of ADAS is to assist a driver in reducing accidents like any other technology, many car buyers abuse this functionality as well. In one such incident, a video has surfaced online showing a man in a Mahindra XUV700 playing with his wife while driving on a highway.
The video shows a man sitting sideways in the driver’s seat with his legs raised enjoying with his wife while a person from the back seat is filming a video. Amidst all this, the car is cruising at high speed on a freeway, utilizing ADAS features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. The video has drawn criticism on social media platforms and was originally shared by the user in the car named Afsar Ghudasi.
No matter how safe you drive.
If you are traveling with such idiots at the same time, your appointment with the Almighty is confirmed.pic.twitter.com/QBvg72crPw— Roads of Mumbai (@RoadsOfMumbai) March 11, 2023
The video sparked a wave of criticism from the driver of the car. This isn’t the first time an XUV700 user has abused ADAS technology to gain a foothold on social media. Recently, another video of a man sitting sideways in the driver’s seat with his legs raised and playing cards with his friends went viral.
More videos have surfaced online showing the Mahindra XUV700 driving alone on freeways. ADAS technology is a crucial component of self-driving vehicles and provides features such as adaptive cruise control to maintain the vehicle’s speed, automatic emergency braking to stop a vehicle, lane departure warning to keep a vehicle between lanes, among others.
However, ADAS is used at best to assist and avoid accidents and does not take over driving entirely. This level of autonomous driving is achieved when a vehicle reaches autonomy level 3 and higher. In such cases, artificial intelligence is also used to drive the vehicle autonomously.
