The move comes after Honda and South Korean company LG Energy Solution Ltd announced in October they would build a proposed $4.4 billion joint-venture battery plant
The U.S. unit of Honda Motor Co announced on Tuesday that it will shift production of its Accord sedan to Indiana in 2025 after the model spent more than 40 years in the US as part of the transition to electric vehicle (EV) production Marysville, Ohio. Marysville will be Honda’s first auto plant in the US to transition to manufacturing electric vehicles.
The move comes after Honda and South Korea’s LG Energy Solution Ltd announced in October that they would build a proposed $4.4 billion joint venture battery factory at a site near Jeffersonville, Ohio, and early laid the foundation stone this month.

The battery factory, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, will cover an area of more than 185,806 square meters and will target an annual production capacity of about 40 gigawatt hours (GWh).
Honda said last year it had separately invested $700 million to convert three Ohio plants, including Marysville, to produce electric vehicles by 2026.
Marysville will begin preparations for EV production as early as January by consolidating its two production lines into one to begin building EV infrastructure, the company said.
Honda began assembling the Accord in Marysville in November 1982, becoming the first Japanese automaker to produce cars in the United States. Since then, more than 12.5 million Accords have been produced at the Ohio plant.
In 1989, the Accord became the first Japanese model to hold the title of best-selling US car, selling 362,700 vehicles.
In recent years, Americans have moved from sedans to sport utility and crossover vehicles. Honda sold 154,600 Accords in the US last year, down 24% from 2021.
Honda said Accord production will be shifted to its Indiana auto plant, which builds the Civic hatchback and CR-V.
Honda’s Georgia transmission plant will provide a production line for the production of e-axles – a key component for electric vehicles – and the Anna, Ohio engine plant will move production of some engine components to a Honda engine plant in Alabama to accommodate the production of Battery cases prepare EV models, the company said.
