The partnership aligns with Mahindra Group’s initiatives to empower women in sports; Mahindra will also hold exciting competitions for customers
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Monday unveiled India’s leading SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd as title sponsor and announced legendary MC Mary Kom and Bollywood star Farhan Akhtar as brand ambassadors for the planned 2023 IBA Women’s World Championships to be held here from 15-15 May .until March 26th.
India is hosting the event for the third time and several top pugilists are expected to take part in the championships which will be held here at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.
Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India said: “We are delighted to welcome Mahindra Automotive as our main sponsor. BFI and Mahindra share a common vision of empowering women through sport and I look forward to seeing them as our partners in this mission.”

“The presence of Mary Kom and Farhan Akhtar as brand ambassadors for the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will add tremendous value to our mission of promoting women’s participation in boxing. Mary Kom is a legend in our sport and Farhan Akhtar is a Bollywood icon who has directed several inspirational sports films including one about boxing. The association with these two youth icons will increase the profile of this World Cup and help promote the sport across the country. The event will also help show the world India’s potential as a host of major global tournaments,” he was quoted as saying in a press release on Monday.

Mary Kom, a bronze medalist at the London Olympics, is the most decorated boxer in the history of the Women’s World Championships, having won the title six times as well as silver and bronze.
“India is hosting the World Cup for the third time and it is a special and rare honor. It will highlight India’s strength as a sporting nation before a global audience. I am very happy to be part of this tournament and I am sure that this will be a golden page in Indian sports history,” said Mary Kom.
A passionate sports lover, Farhan Akhtar is also known for his starring roles in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Toofaan which showed a boxer’s journey.
During the event, Farhan will be engaging with the boxers and will also be spreading the excitement of the tournament through his social media channels.
Speaking of his association with the event, Farhan Akhtar said: “As an avid sports lover, I have followed our girls’ journey and cheered and applauded every time they brought glory to India in this sport! I hope you all follow the exciting fights and get inspired by these women from around the world. I also want to give a special mention to BFI who are doing a great job encouraging and supporting women in boxing. And finally, good luck to all players participating in this event. Todun taak!”
A total of more than 350 boxers from 74 countries have so far registered for the biennial event, which for the first time has a prize pool of INR 20 crore.
