The newly disclosed patent The application is called “Self-retracting display device and screen protection techniques using fall detection”. As the name suggests, the susceptibility to damage for the upcoming folding iPhone should be reduced. But how does Apple want the technology to work?
In the patent, Apple takes different paths. For example, one proposal states that the foldable iPhone can be folded on a hinge. Another suggests that the iPhone display can be detached or folded in a way that minimizes impact damage. Apple can even merge the two and let the mechanism decide which is best.
