A co-recipient of the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Dr. Molina is one of the researchers who uncovered how chemicals deplete the Earth’s ozone shield, which is vital in protecting people, plants and wildlife from harmful ultraviolet light.

- He and his colleagues published their findings in the journal Nature, which later won them the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
- The groundbreaking research became the basis of the Montreal Protocol, an international agreement that successfully banned the production of nearly 100 ozone-depleting chemicals.
- This international alliance is recognized as one of the most impactful environmental agreements ever made – a precedent that shows governments can work together effectively to tackle climate change.
- He died of a heart attack on October 7, 2020 at the age of 77.
