The game-changing moment came early in the second over when Devine took on Giants off-break bowler Ashleigh Gardner. Gardner had just been introduced to offense and the first ball didn’t result in a run. Devine wasn’t in the mood to pass up the opportunity, however, and went all out against Gardner. In a span of just five balls, she hit 6, 4, 4, 6 and 4 to put up 24 runs and take the game away from the Giants. RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana could only watch as Devine dominated the attack.
Devine started the over with a slog sweep for a six, followed by two cracking cover drives for back-to-back boundaries. Gardner tried to change her line, but Devine was unstoppable, hitting another slog sweep for a massive six over the deep mid-wicket. She finished the over with a well-timed down-the-ground drive to the right of center for another boundary.
Despite missing a century, Devine’s blistering performance set the tone for RCB’s comfortable victory with 5 overs remaining. Her innings were a master class in power-hitting and demonstrated her ability to take down any bowling attack. It was an exceptional display of cricket and one that will be remembered for a long time.
